Thick or Fungal Nails
Nail infections invade the skin under the nail and can lead to separation of the nail plate from the nail bed, nail discoloration, thickening of the nail, and can cause changes in the nail texture.

Thinning
Reducing the thickness and removing some of the damaged portion of the nail can make you more comfortable and can prepare your nail for topical treatments. Not all clients choose to try topical treatments, and that is OK. We can still thin and trim your nails.
Topical Treatment
Topical treatments kill the active fungus so that your new nail growth is protected from damage. As your nail grows, the damaged nail is trimmed off. In order to fully recover, you must use the topical treatment daily until only healthy nail remains. A big toe can take 9 months to 12 months to grow from base to tip. Using topical treatments is a commitment and takes patience.
Surgical Referral
If your nail is not responding to topical treatments, surgery is an option. A podiatrist can remove the nail. You will still need to use medication to protect your new nail growth from infection. The podiatrist can send a sample of your nail to a lab to determine the exact type of infection so that your medication can be customized to the specific germ that is invading the nail. Sometimes the new nail may not fully attach to the nail bed.
