Why Salon Sanitation Should Matter to You

When most people think about a salon visit, they think about beautiful nails, soft skin, and a little time to relax. But for many clients, there’s one question in the back of their mind:

“How clean is this place, really?”

And honestly, that’s a smart question.

Quick Facts

  • Some estimates suggest 80% of salon-acquired infections come from pedicure bowls

  • The EPA says foot spa disinfectants must stay wet on surfaces for 10 minutes to work properly

  • The wart-causing virus, HPV can survive on surfaces for months, and common salon disinfectants do not kill HPV

  • Salon disinfectants can kill vegetative fungal cells but are completely ineffective against fungal spores

Why we do things differently

At our salon, we’ve built our services around one priority:

your safety first.

That’s why we do dry pedicures — not pedicure bowls.

The EPA warns that foot spas can collect bacteria in screens, tubes, and hidden areas where germs can grow, making them one of the biggest sanitation concerns in salons. Even when bowls are disinfected, the product has to stay in contact with the surface for the full label time — typically 10 minutes — to be effective.

And let’s be honest: many clients have noticed that in a lot of salons, bowls are wiped out and refilled quickly — not left to soak for the full 10 minutes.

What we do to protect you

Instead of relying on pedicure bowls, we use a cleaner, safer dry pedicure process and go far beyond the minimum when it comes to sanitation.

Here’s what that means for you:

  • No pedicure bowls

  • Dry pedicures for a cleaner service

  • All tools are sterilized

  • The room is disinfected between every client

  • Any product bottle we touch gets disinfected

  • We use a premium surface disinfectant on bottles and chairs that requires only 1 minute of contact time

Why that matters

Not all salon disinfectants kill everything. Penn State researchers found that commonly used chemical disinfectants can have “absolutely no effect” on HPV, the virus that causes warts. And disinfecting is not the same as true sterilization. That’s exactly why we take extra steps instead of doing the bare minimum.

Our salon's autoclave uses high heat under pressure so that no germs can survive. And we lab test monthly to make sure it's working properly.

Our promise

We don’t just try to make the salon look clean.
We work to make it actually clean.
